Faysal Houtait
My journey into graphic design has an admittedly less-than-traditional start. It was during my junior year at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, while studying political science and economics, that I was struck with a desire to explore graphic design. With no formal graphic design concentration being offered at the university at the time, I took the advice of a friend and decided to teach myself. It was a (frustrating, at times) trial and error learning process that ultimately proved rewarding. By the time I graduated, I had worked for two years as one of two graphic design leads in the university’s graphics office. Graphic design had become a passion, one I knew I wanted to pursue long term.
Fast forward to the present and I’ve been blessed to be able to express my design creativity in a variety of outlets. Working as an in-house designer taught me to follow brand guidelines and to strike a productive balance between creativity and consistency. My freelance work sharpened my multitasking and communication skills, while also helping me to develop my ability to work independently. Collectively, my work experience has allowed me to evolve my personal design aesthetic and made me a vastly more thoughtful and confident creator.
When I’m not designing, you can find me playing tennis, baking, or (most likely) in the middle of a Netflix binge. If you’re interested in working together, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
